The Trust’s main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which started life more than a century ago as a military hospital. Today it is one of the largest, modern hospitals on the south coast, with 1,200 beds housed in light, bright, infection resistant, en-suite wards. With a turnover of close to £600m, the Trust provides comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to a local population of 675,000 people across South East Hampshire. Some tertiary services are provided to a wider catchment in excess of two million people. The Trust employs over 7,300 staff and is the largest employer in Portsmouth.

IT Project Manager

This is an excellent opportunity to become involved with a team facing an exciting period of change and challenge. Following publication of a new Digital Strategy for Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust, the IT Department is embracing a new brief, in championing digital transformation and raising digital maturity across the organisation. It is seeking a forward thinking, dynamic and experienced individual, with a proven history of delivering results, to fill this key role.


The Role:

We are looking for a passionate individual to lead and manage multiple projects within the IT Department. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of multiple clinical IT Projects and ensuring any risks to the project completion are escalated and mitigated appropriately. You will be responsible for conducting project feasibility reviews and carrying out business analyses in order to assess proposals and requests for technology implementation. You will ensure; systems & processes are in place to assure delivery and provide oversight; integration of key clinical, managerial & operational processes and; governance & controls are implemented to transition to a sustainable operational service and realise benefits.


The Candidate:

  • You will be suitably qualified and be able to demonstrate a wealth of relevant knowledge and experience in similar roles (preferably within healthcare and the public sector).
  • It is expected that you will have previously been working at senior technical, professional and management levels with other organisations, and have a proven history of consistently delivering good results.
  • You will be a highly confident individual, demonstrating excellent judgement, self-belief, drive and persistence to see things through.
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you can motivate and inspire others through inclusive and collaborative working.
  • You will be able to demonstrate the intellectual flexibility necessary to work in a complex and changing environment, developing and delivering innovative solutions for short-term priorities and long-term goals.
