Band 5 Rotational Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our team of therapists at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust.

We are looking for a newly qualified or existing band 5 Occupational therapist, to join our dynamic and friendly team.

We offer the opportunity to experience working in both the acute and rehabilitation inpatient and outpatient settings with 6 monthly rotations in;

Acute – within this rotation the band 5 OT provides highly responsive care and timely decision making in conjunction with Senior Therapists to prevent admissions and facilitate early safe discharges. The band 5 will be based on the Older Persons Short Stay Unit (OPSSU).

Surgery – this rotation offers the band 5 the opportunity to assess patients within various specialities such as oncology, urology and gynaecology who have had surgical interventions and require intervention to support safe discharges. There is also opportunity to work with senior OT’s in the management of amputee management

Hyper acute/Acute Stroke Unit - During this rotation Band 5’s have the opportunity to develop skills in the assessment and treatment management of patients during the hyper acute/acute phase post stroke. The OT’s work closely with the other therapists and members of the MDT to provide an integrated care approach.

Medical in this rotation the Band 5 will have the opportunity to work on general medical and Senior Adult Medical wards, getting experience with a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Within this post there is close MDT working to support timely discharge planning and onward referrals.

Respiratory/Cardiology – in this rotation the Band 5 will have the opportunity to work with patients who have cardiac or respiratory conditions. They will be supported by senior occupational therapists and physiotherapists in assessment and planning intervention.

Trauma and OrthopaedicsThe trauma and orthopaedic department treats a wide variety of conditions such as, fracture neck of femurs, elective TKR’s/THR’s and Ilizarov surgery. There is an excellent multi-disciplinary team working relationship.

The therapy teams at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust are integrated to enable therapists to work more closely with each other to improve patient care and experience. There is an established formal supervision and appraisal process and robust in-house training programmes within specialities, this provides the opportunity to further develop clinical and leadership skills for career progression.

Ashford and St Peter’s offers a seven day service across some specialities and you will be expected to support this on a rota system, which includes weekend working. There is a hospital hopper bus service which operates frequently throughout the day between Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital sites.
