The Regional Technical Aid Service (RTAS) provides custom design, modification, manufacture and consultancy services for assistive technology to help improve the lives of people in Newcastle and across the North of England who are living with disabilities. The service is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated engineer to lead and develop the service at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle to meet the increasing needs of the population. There is extensive client contact and the service is delivered in close collaboration with therapists and other health, social care and medical professionals across the region.

The post holder is responsible for the day to day operational management of the service and provides technical leadership and engineering support to team members including the co-ordination and / or delivery of relevant training while maintaining an individual caseload.

The successful candidate will be qualified to post-graduate level or have equivalent level of specialist knowledge relating to assistive technology, will be experienced in engineering design from concept to manufacture and have excellent communication, planning and organisational skills, prior experience of working with people with complex disabilities and will be familiar with the regulatory requirements relevant to the scope of the service. Previous line management experience would be beneficial.

In addition the post holder will be required to be registered as a Clinical Technologist with RCT or AHCS, or be working towards registration.

A full valid driving licence is essential as regular travel throughout the region is required.
