BPAS has an exciting opportunity for an Operating Department Practitioner to come and join our dedicated and dynamic team. This role would suit someone who is an RGN, Registered ODP or Registered Midwife, with a qualification or course in anaesthetics who is looking to help and support clients through their journey of care with BPAS.

As an Operating Department Practitioner, you will work within the operating department to provide planned care for clients undergoing anaesthetic and surgical procedures, and will deliver specialist assistance to the anaesthetist.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Check and prepare the operating department environment and anaesthetic equipment prior to use, between clients and at the end of the list.
  • Undertake the care, support and observations of the client during the pre / post-operative period, reporting any abnormal recordings to the Anaesthetist.
  • Maintain anaesthetic stock levels, including storing, replenishing and ordering of drugs, oxygen and equipment, and oversee and assist with the preparation of anaesthetics.
  • Provide comfort, support and reassurance to clients at times of anxiety or distress, and to maintain and respect the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of clients at all times.
  • Oversee, complete and sign off relevant documentation, ensuring it is accurate and fully completed in a timely manner, and ensure relevant sections of the surgery checklist is completed before and after procedures.

About You

You will be an RGN, RGM or Registered ODP with experience of working within an operating department. You’ll also have experience of working within anaesthetics, and have knowledge of airway management and care of the unconscious client.

We are also looking for:

  • Knowledge of NMC / HPC codes and ability to work within theses
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to maintain accurate documentation and maintain strict confidentiality
  • A team player, with the ability to work on own initiative and able to make decisions in a timely manner
  • Can work effectively under pressure and have a positive attitude towards change

Salary: £27,681-£33,348 per annum pro rata

Working Pattern: 16 Hours per week | Thursday & Friday 8.30am-5pm
