About Us and the post

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and proactive individual to become part of the Critical Care team based on our busy Cardiothoracic and ECMO Unit at The Royal Brompton Hospital. This was an 18 bedded Intensive Care unit which has recently increased its level 3 footprint to 24 beds. This interesting new post is aimed at developing new ways of working for senior clinical staff as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP). With mentor support, the ACCP will integrate into the existing Critical Care team to carry out extended roles within the Critical Care unit which will include; initial assessment, management and care of level 1-3 patients, including practical procedures. They will act as a highly specialised role model and leader for all members of staff, and play a major role in the continuous development of the services within the Trust and as a potential member of a range of trust quality/process improvement project groups.

This unit cares for patients with both cardiac and respiratory illness including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and the dynamic nature of our work makes it a very stimulating and exciting place to work. The Trust’s respiratory ECMO services have been praised internationally and recently received a ‘platinum award’ as a centre of excellence. In return you will benefit from excellent training and development opportunities, and superb support from within our encouraging environment.

About You:

Appointed ACCP trainees will have a nominated Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) Consultant Educational Supervisor and follow the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) competency based training program. The successful applicant will be able to further develop their career in this exciting new role and also help shape the vision for critical care and the role of the ACCP within this environment. They will require a degree level qualification as they will be expected to complete a Post graduate Diploma or Master’s Degree by a High Education Institution (HEI) accredited institution and will receive funding and study time accordingly.

Within this ever changing and evolving environment we are looking to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic staff members who will work well as part of the multi-disciplinary team while engaging with and driving forward this new role within this clinical setting. The successful applicants focus will be channelled towards quality, patient centred, clinically driven, flexibility, valuing people, promoting lifelong learning and being locally led.

Applicants must have evidence of the development of advanced critical care and leadership skills. If you are looking for a challenge and eager to provide a high quality service to patients, relatives and carers then this is the opportunity for you.
