East Midlands Paediatric Transport Service
- FELLOW IN PAEDIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE and TRANSPORT MEDICINE (up to two posts to start February/March 2021, up to two posts to start August 2021)

These are replacement posts in Paediatric Intensive Care and Transport Medicine, supporting Paediatric Intensive Care and the established Children’s Medical Transport service (CoMET), based in the Women’s & Children’s Clinical Management Group of the University Hospitals of Leicester. The successful applicant will a key member of the team rotating through posts in Transport and Paediatric Critical Care. Opportunities may be available to gain experience in ECMO, Cardiac intensive care, and neonatal intensive care dependent on the interests of the candidate and the needs of the service. The paediatric intensive care service in Leicester is being centralised in a new children’s facility at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, and the transport service, hosted by UHL, operates from two clinical bases, one in Nottingham and one in Leicester. The successful applicant will be based in the Leicester centre, but will have opportunities to rotate to the Nottingham centre which sites the regional major trauma centre, the paediatric spinal network and regional neurosurgery services.

This post is suitable for a paediatric trainee who is looking to enhance their intensive care and Transport skills in a specialist intensive care/ECMO unit; either as a stand-alone fellowship, an out of programme arrangement or following completion of their CCT. The post holder will receive training in all aspects of paediatric intensive care and transport medicine including management of cardiac critical care and ECMO patients. The successful candidate may also support mobile ECMO retrievals.

Applicants will therefore need to have completed level 1 training (ST4 and above or equivalent), and have experience in neonatal or paediatric intensive care at registrar level. Previous experience in critical care transport, in the post-operative care of paediatric cardiac patients and experience in ECMO would be an advantage.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced disclosure may be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.
