Location:

Salary:

We seek to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow for the Leicester Neonatal Service. The post will rotate between the neonatal units at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and the Leicester General Hospital (Special Care Unit).

The Leicester Neonatal Service is a dynamic and modern neonatal service providing the full range of care for babies in the East Midlands. The units serve a large population with more than 11000 deliveries per year. We provide care for babies of all gestations, including those requiring the most specialised forms of neonatal intensive care. We are the regional surgical centre; offering comprehensive care for a range of neonatal surgical conditions. We have close working links with the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre and jointly treat a number of children with complex heart problems. Leicester has the UK's largest ECMO centre providing this unique form of life support to our sickest patients.

The Neonatal Service is split across 2 sites but we are entering an exciting phase of transformation which will see the service come together in a new maternity hospital. We currently have 42 cots with plans for significant expansion of our unit. The Leicester Royal Infirmary houses our main intensive care, with facilities for 10 intensive care cots, 8 High Dependency Cots and 12 Special Care cots. The Leicester General has a smaller unit with 12 Special Care cots. Many of our babies spend some time in both units.

Leicester is the Lead Neonatal Intensive Care for the region, and we work closely with other hospitals in our neonatal network. The South Hub of the CenTre neonatal transport team for the East Midlands Network (EMNODN) is co-located at the LRI site.

This post gives additional experience, skills and knowledge in Neonatology. It will form part of the tier 2 (ST4-8) rotations within the Neonatal service in Leicester. Successful candidates will join a team of doctors working a full-shift system in both neonatal units. There is also scope to consider experience in Neonatal Transport. The post is for 12 months in the first instance but would be flexible depending on the applicant’s individual needs. Candidates should demonstrate eligibility to work in the United Kingdom (PLAB / IELTS or OET (medical version)).
