Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides services through its three hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester. We provide all general hospital services for planned and emergency care as well as specialist services.

Applications are invited for the above Consultant post for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The successful applicant will be expected to deliver clinical and diagnostic infection and medical microbiology services; antimicrobial stewardship activities; laboratory diagnostic oversight and support for infection control services working with the Director of Infection Prevention & Control and team, as required. The department has a very strong clinical focus and presence with daily infection ward rounds on both acute sites, daily ITU/HDU ward attendance and regular attendance at specialty MDTs in endocarditis, orthopaedic infection and haematology. There is an established weekly Infection clinic, close working links with- / opportunity for patient reviews on Ambulatory Care Units on both acute hospital sites in Basingstoke & Winchester and an OPAT service which is due to officially commence with a dedicated Band 7 Lead nurse on 30th November . Active participation in antimicrobial stewardship & antimicrobial ward rounds is expected. The department has a strong and active research focus / track record nationally & internationally in translational research & innovation. The out of hours on-call commitment is shared with 6 other members of the Consultant team

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the major provider of hospital services to North and Mid Hampshire and consists of three hospital sites at Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover. The post will incorporate work primarily at the acute hospital sites of Basingstoke & Winchester. There are excellent interconnecting major roads. There are frequent rail links to London and the south coast. The urban location of Basingstoke and Andover are two of the fastest growing towns in Europe and complement the historical, cathedral town of Winchester. In-between is a network of villages and small market towns amid Hampshire’s beautiful country side

Applicants are required to be on the GMC’s Specialist Register Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, or within 3 months of their CCT date (or equivalent) at the time of the interview.

The department will also be advertising for an additional substantive position in January 2021.
