Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) provides a range of community health, mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages. Delivered through over 100 settings from inpatient wards to out in the community, our 6,500 staff serves over 1m people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.


Band 6 Occupational Therapist

Permanent Post- Community County Team (WTE 0.74, 28 hours)

Location: Learning Disability Community Team Melton and Rutland area.

Working Pattern:Mon-Fri 9-5, part time hours to be negotiated according to service and applicant’s needs.

The Role:

This post is to cover the Melton/Rutland geographical area though at times maybe required to support service demands across the wider LD community service. Applicants will be dynamic, motivated and adaptable with a passion for sharing good practice. Applicants will work autonomously to deliver OT assessment and treatment to the health needs of patients with LD within a MDT format through pathway working.

The OT service sees patients in a variety of settings including their own homes, care/residential homes, day services and colleges. Successful applicants will link and be supported by the wider LD OT community team across Leicester Leicestershire and Rutland which comprises of Band 5, Band 6’s a Band 3 OT assistant Band 7 across the city and county and Band 8a Clinical and Professional Lead.

It is an exciting time within the LD service with the reviewing and developing of the pathways, ASD, PBS, Dementia, Physical Health, Epilepsy, Mental Health, Forensic and Eating and drinking as a key element of the Quality Improvement Plan to improve patient care and deliver high standards of practice.

Post requires:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Clear understanding of the OT process to deliver high quality assessment and treatment
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Will need to use car at work to complete clinical visits Learning Disability experience would be beneficial
  • To have an understanding of Sensory Integration, Positive Behaviour support, Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, Dual diagnosis would be beneficial
  • Experience of community working would be beneficial

The Team:

Successful applicants will link and be supported by the wider LD OT community team across Leicester Leicestershire and Rutland which comprises of Band 5, Band 6’s a Band 3 OT assistant Band 7 across the city and county and Band 8a Clinical and Professional Lead.

Although we are a small team covering across city and county we ensure we come together regularly to support each other.

The OT’s form part of the wider MDT for each community area covering City, East and West in the locality bases working with LD Nurses, Physio’s, SALTs, Psychiatrists and Psychology.

Small but supportive team highly motivated to deliver high standards of care for our patients and share skills and knowledge across the teams.
