Locum Specialty Doctor

Psychiatry of Intellectual Disabilities

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) is at the forefront of providing integrated health and social care. The Trust specialises in providing services for people with mental health problems and people with a learning disability including those who require specialist or forensic health care.

HPFT is one of a handful of mental health trusts in the country to receive a CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’. The Trust aims “to become the leading provider of Mental Health and Specialist Learning Disability services in the country”.

Service Details: The Learning Disability service stream provides specialist health care to adults with learning disabilities in Hertfordshire. The total population of Hertfordshire is approximately 1.2 million people and the consultant catchment area for all Medical posts in Hertfordshire LD services have recently been reconfigured to meet the Royal College recommended 150,000 for a fulltime consultant, taking into account local characteristics such as number of new referrals, out of borough placements and Transforming Care discharges alongside junior doctor support and support from Multidisciplinary Teams.

The Trust is seeking to employ a Locum Specialty Doctor to join the Community Learning Disability Team based at Saffron Ground Stevenage under the clinical supervision of Dr Mukherji Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director. Other areas of work will involve home visits /clinics in the East and North Herts locality and joint working with the CATT team.

The post holder will work within the community team providing psychiatric assessments and follow up for adults with learning disabilities and co morbid mental health or behaviour disorders. The post holder will run outpatient clinics, carry out home visits and join in multidisciplinary case discussions and Care Programme Approach meetings. The post holder will work closely with Intensive Support providing psychiatric expertise to this service and joining in the assessment and treatment process. The post holder will carry no responsibility for inpatients.
