As part of this, the Trust is reviewing job roles in relation to COVID-19 national guidance, in terms of home working, flexibility and safe practice, to ensure positive working environments for staff and the best quality services for patients. Please note that this post may be subject to adjustments in line with COVID-19 national guidance.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Registered Nurses to join the team on Pleasley Ward at the Hartington Unit.

Pleasley Ward is a 20 bedded acute inpatient ward providing an ageless service for residents within Derbyshire with an acute, functional mental illness. It consists of a mixture of adult and older adult beds and provides a rare opportunity for an MDT to work across all age ranges to provide high quality mental health care.

Pleasley ward is also currently functioning as the Hartington Unit COVID secure area providing care for older adults and adults of high risk to COVID due to underlying health conditions.

The Team on Pleasley have recently welcomed the addition of a Clinical Lead to work alongside the Senior Nurse/Ward Manager to drive forward quality care with an older adult focus. The Hartington Unit has also recently recruited a Clinical Matron who also supports practice.

The Ward team includes ward based Nurses, Medics, Occupational Therapists and a Unit Psychologist and benefits from support from Dietician and Physiotherapists as required.

An Older Adult in-reach Team has also been developed which now works closely with the ward to facilitate safe and effective discharge.

This unique ward/service enables nurses to develop or use their skills in physical healthcare given the ageless service and mix of Older Adults with Adults with underlying health conditions.

The Ward has a focus on assessment using evidence based tools to ensure that any organic causes for illness are ruled out and a clear formulation of the patient’s functional illness is agreed to provide an effective plan for care and treatment on the ward and a safe discharge.

There is an opportunity on Pleasley ward to work closely family and carers to achieve the best outcome for their patients and successful candidates will be supported to work within the nationally recognised Triangle of Care.

Successful candidates can expect supervision, support and development.

For newly Registered Nurses there is a comprehensive preceptorship package incorporated study days and on ward visits by a dedicated wrap around external support team.

Support is also extended to inexperienced nurses post preceptorship through the same team.

For more experienced Registered Nurses the Trust has recently launched a development and competency framework to support Band 5 nurses to develop and evidence enhanced clinical skills used on the ward to support progression to a ward based Band 6 clinical Lead Nurse and improve the quality of the therapeutic offer to patients.
