Paediatric / Neonatal Neurology Clinical Research Fellow

This post is ideal for trainees who wish to take time out of training to develop their skills in paediatric neurology, and gain research experience in neonatal neurology. The post is based at the Ryegate Children’s Centre / Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and research will be conducted both at this site and at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.


Ths post is designed for a trainee of ST4 and above level, who is considering a career in paediatric neurology or neonatology (with an interest in development / neurology) and is interested in gaining research experience, presentations and publications. It is expected that the successful applicant will complete research projects relating to amplitude integrated electroencephalography (also called cerebral function monitoring) in preterm babies, which is currently recruiting. The post is valid for one year in the first instance, but may be extended depending on progress of the research study and review of the successful applicant’s work towards the end of the first year.


The trainee will need to discuss the possibility of out of programme experience with the necessary authorities at their Trust / Deanery.

In line with other NHS Organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber Region a successful candidate appointed into a post within this Trust will be required to pay the DBS check fee (£45). This is customarily payable over 4 months as a salary deduction once employed by the Trust. If you receive a conditional offer letter, complete your DBS application and later withdraw from the recruitment process, an invoice will be raised via the Trust's finance department to recoup the outlay.
