Have you recently left school, been affected by redundancy or are just looking to retrain, if so why not consider an apprenticeship as a Healthcare Assistant at Yeovil Hospital.

HCAs are part of our nursing team working alongside the nurses supporting our patients in various ways such as:

  • washing and dressing
  • toileting
  • bed making
  • serving patients meals/assisting with feeding
  • helping people to mobilise
  • assisting with patients' overall comfort
  • monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight– national early warning scores (NEWS)
  • providing encouragement to lifestyle and behaviour changes

As a Healthcare Apprentice you will work on our Wards as part of the nursing teams and undertake your Care Certificate and clinical training to enable you to support our nurses to deliver quality care to our patients. You will also be enrolled on your NVQ in Care, and if you successfully complete this you will be well placed to start your career in Nursing.

We are looking for individuals who are kind and compassionate, with excellent communication skills and able to talk to a wide variety of patients to make their stay as comfortable as possible. You must be able to make sensible decisions and identify when concerns should be raised

These are full time positions only (37.5 hours per week) covering a 7 day / 24 hour service. Shifts are 12.5 hours per day, covering days and nights. You will be released for study days.

Salary: £11,500 per year (£5.90 per hour) and enhancements are paid for weekend and night working.

Other Benefits: 27 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays, training and development in a wide range of nursing skills, NHS pension, local discounts for NHS staff.

To apply you must have a GCSE grade C or equivalent in Maths and English.

If you have already achieved a Level 2 or 3 Health and Social Care qualification, you will not be eligible for this role, however we will be advertising for Band 2 Healthcare Assistants in the New Year and we would love to hear from you then,
