Library Assistant ApprenticeAn exciting opportunity as arisen for a Library Assistant Apprentice to join the ESNEFT Evidence and Library Services team, based at Colchester Hospital. This is a 2 year fixed term contract, with the opportunity to progress to a substantive position on successful completion of the apprenticeship qualification. We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience of working within a library environment and within the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognized apprenticeship qualification.

 

Duties (performed under supervision)

    • Staff the library issue desk and be the initial contact for visitors, providing excellent customer service.
    • Provide administrative support to the Library team.
    • Issue, renew and reserve books using the Library Management System.
    • Manage inter-library loan requests.
  • Provide an enquiry service to all library users, helping them to find the information and resources they need. This could be in person, by telephone, email or post.
  • Assist with marketing and promotional activities.

What does the apprenticeship involve? This is a full time post of 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. During your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled with an education provider and will be required to complete your Library, information & archive services assistant apprenticeship Level 3 within the duration of the placement. There will be a work-based structured learning programme to follow with support from your manager and mentor. You will be supported to do this with 20% of your weekly hours as off-the-job learning opportunity. You may be required to visit the library service based in Ipswich Hospital. Eligibility Criteria:All applicants must be:

  • Aged 16+
  • Must NOT be in any form of formal government-funded education
  • You can hold a degree but not in the area of which the Apprenticeship aligns with

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good IT skills
