Within the NUTH Trust on the RVI site, Gynaecology Surgery offers Laparoscopic and Robotic surgery, regional endometriosis service, UroGynaecology (including mesh removal and fistula service), Andrology and Fertility specialist services, and Specialist Termination service. There are nine consultants and two theatres in total. The responsibilities will include the day to day running of the Gynaecology Surgery Theatres covering all of the sub specialities, managing operating lists, staff, organising equipment, departmental and trust wide issues. The unit provides unique and innovative procedures, therefore the successful candidate will need to be proactive in the implementation of new procedures/ideas/equipment etc and have a keen willingness to learn as well as pass on knowledge and information to their colleagues.

The Leazes Wing Theatre Suite provides an emergency service, covering all specialities based within the Suite, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Gynaecology, this is a Band 6 lead service and is run on an 13 week rota. This is a 24/7 service, therefore the post will be worked on a shift pattern basis, including late shifts/nights/weekends.

This offers a unique opportunity to personally develop and expand on skills, knowledge and experience within these areas using both in house and external training courses.

This post will be full time, shift pattern, internal rotation.

In addition to the Emergency Service within the Leazes Wing Theatres the Trust has a Level 1 Trauma status, therefore, at times; facilitation of the teams during major trauma and poly trauma admissions will be part of the role for the successful candidate. Out of hours work is carried out in the New Victoria Wing Theatre Suite and can potentially incorporate Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Neuro and maxillo Facial surgery as well as General Surgery, Plastics, Burns and Gynaecology that is routinely based in Leazes Wing Theatres.

The successful candidate will support the Band 7 with managerial and HR responsibility when required. This includes both staffing and all clinical aspects working with the current team of experienced Band 6 staff in Gynaecology Theatres.
