Senior Healthcare Technical Officer (SHTO)

NHS Blood and Transplant is an integral part of the NHS. Operating a network of centres across England and North Wales, we collect around 2 million units of blood and tissues a year, converting them into safe and effective blood components, blood and tissue products for use in the treatments of patients.

The Cellular and Molecular Therapies function of NHSBT comprises seven Stem Cells & Immunotherapies laboratories throughout the country and the Clinical Biotechnology Centre in Bristol, providing a range of life saving therapies. Our work in Stem Cells and Immunotherapies (SCI) based in Liverpool is central to the provision and improvement of haemopoietic and other stem cell transplants.

Our department selects, processes and issues peripheral stem cells for patients undergoing haemopoietic stem cell transplantation. Our partnership with transplant programmes provides opportunities for applied research and development. In Liverpool we also have an Advanced Therapies Unit (ATU) allowing us to be at the forefront of clinical improvements by helping produce investigational medicinal products for use in clinical trials using our expertise in GMP, quality and regulatory matters.

We’re looking for a BTEC/HNC in a Science or other relevant subject, or the NHSBT foundation degree or equivalent. You’ll also, ideally, have a working knowledge of basic IT packages and some experience of working unsupervised in a laboratory environment. A good team player, you’ll be capable of motivating both yourself and others as you tackle a wide variety of tasks.

You will be required to work 18.75 hours per week (2.5 days per week). The earliest start time will be 08:00am with an approximate finish time of 16:00pm.

This vacancy will close at 23:59 on Wednesday 4th November 2020.

Date for interviews to be confirmed.
