We are seeking a suitably qualified Genetic Counsellor to join the All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS). This is a permanent, full time post covering all aspects of genetic counselling based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The post holder will be a member of a multidisciplinary team offering support and information to individuals and families in the North Wales area. The post holder will demonstrate excellent counselling skills and a clear insight into the psychosocial impacts of the disorders encountered and appropriate strategies to manage them.

The post holder will need to be flexible to ensure cases can be managed effectively. Travel around North Wales will be required because part of this role will be to deliver clinics across the region, so a flexible approach to work will be needed and an ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a Genetic Counsellor and be registered with the UK Genetic Counsellor Registration Board, or an equivalent oversees genetic counselling body. Applications from genetic counsellors preparing to apply for registration in the near future are also welcomed.

Individuals with the requisite qualifications for GCRB registration but without the experience required for registration are welcome to apply but would be appointed initially as a Genetic Counsellor at band 6 level until a period of training under supervision has been undertaken. After this training period and subject to reaching the competencies required for GCRB registration, the successful candidate would progress to an autonomous Genetic Counsellor role at band 7 level.

For appointment at band 7, you will have either an MSc in genetic counselling and GCRB registration plus significant experience in clinical practice, or be a registered nurse or midwife graduate with significant post registration experience and have worked in a genetics related health setting. The post holder will be expected to have basic counselling training of at least 90 guided learning hours in counselling and a 30 hour science course.

We are looking for individuals who share the core values of the organisation:
• We care about the people we serve and the people we work with
• We trust one another
• We respect each other
• We take personal responsibility
• We treat people with kindness
• We act with integrity

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Closing Date: 26th October 2020
