This post is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established Learning Disability Service in North Derbyshire DCHS

Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust (DCHS) provides Community Learning Disability Services for those individuals residing in North Derbyshire and a Specialist Learning Disability Inpatient Assessment & Treatment unit for residents throughout Derbyshire (including Derby City).

The post-holder will be working as part of a well-supported multi-disciplinary team comprising Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologists, Non-Medical Prescriber Clinical Pharmacist, AHPs and LD Nurses.

There are opportunities to benefit from and contribute to for CPD activities, Quality Improvement opportunities in collaboration with teams and individuals in the service and across the organisation.

The Speciality Doctor will work as part of the DCHS Learning Disability Service and contribute to the work of the multi-disciplinary team. He/she will be involved with inpatient assessment and will liaise with colleagues in the service, to assist in the treatment plan of the person with a learning disability, in order to ensure timely and comprehensive management of their problems and to facilitate timely discharge from in-patient acute settings.

The team works with people from the age of 18 years with Learning Disability and Mental Illness, Epilepsy, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Challenging Behaviour and Forensic needs.

The post holder is expected to work closely with the Community Learning Disability Teams and in-patient, multi-disciplinary team to provide psychiatric care to patients from the catchment area population.

To provide outpatient services based at Ash Green Hospital and in other community settings as agreed and discussed with the Consultant.

The post holder is expected to actively participate and contribute to any re-organisation and future development of the Specialist Learning Disability Service.

The national service models outlined within the NHS Building the Right Support Guidance (NHS England, October 2015), describes key principles that apply to all services delivering care and treatment for people with a learning disability and/ or autism.

  • The starting point should always be for mainstream services to support people with a learning disability and/or autism, making reasonable adjustments where necessary and with access to specialist multi-disciplinary support as appropriate;
  • A core element of any such specialist provision should therefore be on enabling mainstream services, and other partners, to support people directly. Where meeting health and care needs are particularly complex, more intensive, specialist, multi-disciplinary support may be needed to ensure equity of outcome for people

The service provides a multi-disciplinary approach to the assessment and treatment of people with a learning disability and offers the following services:

  • Specialist out-patient clinics
  • In-patient assessment and treatment
  • Intensive Support Team - IST
  • Initial Assessment Team - IAT
  • Community Support Team - CST
  • Forensic Support Team - FST
  • Transition ( Preparing for Adulthood) Team
  • Specialist sensory and therapy service

DBS Check
The cost of undertaking a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) disclosure will be met by the individual. The Trust will meet the initial costs of the disclosure which will be deducted from your first month’s salary. The current price of a standard check is £23 and an enhanced check is £40.
