The department of Microbiology, at Harrogate & District hospital is looking for Assistant Practitioners to primarily carry out specimen processing for the COVID-19 PCR testing laboratory. Harrogate District Hospital Laboratory is part of the Integrated Pathology Solutions Microbiology team. Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users but the successful candidate will be employed directly by the NHS as a Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust employee.

There are 4 fixed term contracts (fixed term for 6 months which may be extended by a further 6 months depending on the ongoing COVID pandemic situation and our response to the testing requirements for this).

The department is operating two shifts: Early 09:00 am - 16.00 pm and Late 15:30 – 22:30 pm. A rolling shift pattern of three days on followed by three days off will be fixed and will also involve a mix of early and late shifts for all 4 Practitioners.

The team at Harrogate is small and friendly requiring a high degree of team work and co-operation from its members so candidates should be prepared to be part of the close knit environment fostered in the department.
