Could you pull together communications strategies from different groups within an organisation and deliver a joined up communications service in a complex, diverse and challenging environment? If so, you could be the person we are looking for to join a forward thinking organisation whose aim is to maximise opportunities for members of the public and health and social care staff to be involved in health and social care research, making the North East and North Cumbria the best place to deliver health and social care research in the NHS.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an experienced Communication Manager, to manage the communications service for research on behalf of the Trust and two hosted research groups: National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria (NIHR CRN NENC) and NIHR Participant Recruitment Centre Newcastle. The Communication Manager will create strategies to promote the benefits of health and social care research across the Trust and will support a comprehensive communications function for our health and care partners and members of the public across the North East and North Cumbria.

The role will be a part of the Trust communications team and work alongside members of the research groups, line managing other communications staff. The post holder will liaise with other communications and research professionals across the NIHR platforms, locally and nationally, and in the health and social care organisations in the region. The work is to manage promotional campaigns for brand marketing and engagement, and ensure reputation management for the Trust and the NIHR, ensuring a consistent and joined up approach to communication and engagement across all areas of activity. Regular travel across the region is expected.

Newcastle Hospitals invites applications from people who have excellent interpersonal, and communication skills and the ability to drive innovation or novel ideas across organisational boundaries. The successful applicant will also need to illustrate how they manage time effectively, prioritise work across multiple workstreams and ability to respond to an ever changing environment and competing priorities. They must demonstrate the ability to deliver results consistently to tight timelines, with minimal supervision.

Essential requirements include degree level education and post graduate study to master’s level or an equivalent level of experience, demonstrable experience of working within a communications speciality, and knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations. The post holder will also require experience of managing social/web based media content, within relevant policies and brand guidance, and delivering national meetings and engagement events across a diverse range of audiences/partners. The role requires the ability to write newsletters and publicity materials, translating complex information into easy to understand formats, and writing strategic documentation for Board level audiences.

Full Time 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week
