Nursing Apprentice – Early 2021 intake

Are you an Assistant Practitioner, Nursing Associate or healthcare worker with a foundation degree or other health related degree?
Do you want to become a registered Nurse?
We are offering at an exciting opportunity to develop your career and become a Registered Nurse by undertaking an 18 month fast track apprenticeship. On completion you will receive a Nursing Studies BSc Degree, NMC pin number and guaranteed band 5 nursing post with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

During this training programme, you will be a full time student undertaking degree level studies alongside a range of placements within the Trust. This course has been designed to build upon your clinical skills and knowledge already gained in your current role as an Assistant Practitioner and enables you to follow a work-based curriculum to become a Registered Nurse.

This course will equip you with skills and support your long-term career aspirations of working as a Registered Nurse in the NHS. The course is constructed using a work-based model of 2 days a week in Theory and 3 days practice placement. Your 37.5 hours a week involves allocated time for placement, theory and study throughout the 18 month programme. Significant use of technology will also be utilised to allow you to learn flexibly and you will be supported throughout the programme by personal tutors, lecturers, academic assessors and practice supervisors.

As this is an apprenticeship you will not be required to pay any tuition fees and you will receive a training salary for the length of the programme. Salary for year 1 of the programme is at £4.15 per hour and the last 6 months of this programme is £8.76 per hour (Salaries correct for April 2020 financial year). Please ensure you are able to commit to this training programme and the salary changes for the duration of the course.

This is a full time course requiring 37.5 hours commitment per week, part time hours cannot be accommodated. Annual leave for the duration of the programme is pre-set and cannot be taken at any other time. You will be required to work across the full 24/7 clinical shift pattern during this programme.

The requirements for entry to the programme are:
A foundation Degree Assistant Practitioner/ Health & Social Care level 5 OR a degree in a Health or Science related subject OR Nursing Associate qualification
GCSE Maths and English OR Functional skills level 2 Maths and English (please note no other Maths and English qualifications are accepted by the apprenticeship regulator)
12 months minimum experience in healthcare at Assistant Practitioner or Healthcare worker level
Successful completion of interview and RPL document

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service are - Standard DBS check £30.20 and Enhanced DBS check £48.20. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered.
