In Southampton University Hospital, we will have an additional 6 general ITU beds and 7 additional theatres by March 2021. As part of preparing for this programme we will need (0.5WTE band 8a) 19 hours per week to replace a secondment role and maintain our level of pharmacy contribution to critically ill patients in theatres and intensive care.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Critical Care Pharmacy team is led by a consultant pharmacist; the team is also supported by 7x band 8a and a rotational band 7. This covers 110 level 3 and 2 beds and includes 7 prescribers of parenteral nutrition. The team receives and responds to urgent requests for advice/action concerning theatre cases.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Providing clinical pharmacy advice to critical care nurses, anaesthetists and medics, detecting & preventing errors and solving medication problems of critically ill patients. This includes review of Metavision prescriptions and attending consultant led ward rounds as well as accessing JAC electronic prescriptions. Responding to theatre phone calls. Also undertaking analysis of drug usage data, guideline production and compiling drug file data

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Previous clinical pharmacy experience in critical care and parenteral nutrition would be useful but not essential. If you are a prescriber or have capability and enthusiasm, we can provide the training.
