An exciting opportunity has arisen within CWP NHS Trust to join the Liaison Psychiatry Team based at the Countess of Chester Hospital (CoCH).

The Liaison Psychiatry Service delivers comprehensive mental health assessments, brief intervention, care planning and signposting/referral for patients who present to the A&E department or who have been admitted to hospital. The team works closely with the Hospital Alcohol Liaison Service and the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team and are supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist.

We work to address the mental health needs of people receiving physical health treatment in the acute setting for people aged 16 years and upwards. Common presentations include deliberate self-harm, depression, dementia, alcohol misuse and psychosis. We assess people in the Emergency Department (ED) and from any ward/medical specialty across the hospital. Due to the nature of acute care medicine, urgent care and ED pressures the work is diverse, fast paced and clinically rich.

Post holders will enhance ED departments providing prompt response for assessments and assisting to treatment delivery within the ED 4-hour targets and NHS England response times. The liaison role is also to support the education and training of acute care staff around mental health issues, DOLS, Mental Capacity Act & the Mental Health Act.

We are advertising for Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner post for twelve hour shift patterns to support further development of the Liaison Team within the CoCH. We currently operate a seven day service from 08:00 - 20:30 hours but are soon to provide a 24 hour service covering night duties. Staff will be expected to work night duties, weekends and will be added to a 24/7 roster.

The key attributes for applicants to this service are enthusiasm, flexibility, a willingness to learn and a desire to provide excellent standards of care to the people who use our services offering a person centered approach.

We would welcome interest from RMNs working at Band 6 level who have experience of working in liaison/front line and crisis services or those who have worked with patients with complex mental health difficulties. All successful applicants will receive robust supervision and be supported in their own professional development.
