This is an exciting opportunity to join our service. The Emergency Duty Team is a generic team, this includes adult social care, child care and assessments under the Mental Health Act.

 

Being an Approved Mental Health Professional would be advantageous in relation to the Emergency Duty Teams statutory work under the Mental Health Act however, there will be the opportunity to train as an Approved Mental Health Professional if appointed to a post (which will be mandatory to work in the Emergency Duty Team). The Emergency Duty Team is a great opportunity for Social Workers to practice generically, utilising all skills and knowledge gained in your Social Work training. Help, support and training will be provided if your experience lays in either adult or child social care to learn other areas of practice.

 

Whilst there is a management support 24/7, overnight shifts require skill and experience and ability to work autonomously at times, therefore it is a requirement you have a minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience and have obtained your first year ASYE/NIPE as a newly qualified Social Worker.

 

The Emergency Duty Team responds to emergencies that cannot wait until the next working day. This may include Mental Health Act Assessments, child in need/child protection and adult safeguarding/supporting vulnerable people to remain at home via organising additional support etc. Ability to triage, risk asses and prioritise is important. Excellent communication skills in all forms is essential. The Emergency Duty Team works closely with other agencies that also work out of hours both in the voluntary and statutory sectors.

 

The Emergency Duty Team operates a rolling shift pattern over an 8-week period for Social Workers with the team covering over 126hrs a week. The shifts are of varying hours of evening/nights during the week and days/evening/nights at weekends. We also cover Bank Holidays, which is paid at double time and there is an enhancement for weekend working (a third on top of your main salary).

 

As well as Social Workers, the team also consists of Assistant Practitioners, Call Handlers and Managers. You will receive regular supervisions and attend monthly Team Meetings. The Emergency Duty Team is a small team, but you will be well supported and have the benefit of highly experienced and skilled colleagues to work alongside you. As a generic team, you will also have the opportunity to attend training regularly in both Adult and Children's Services to keep your skills and knowledge up to date. If you an Approved Mental Health Professional or aspire to becoming one, you will attend regular mandatory training ongoing to maintain your warrant.

 

Norfolk is a beautiful county, a real hidden gem with over 90 miles of unspoilt coastline, beautiful countryside, the unique Norfolk Broads, amazing wildlife, picturesque market towns and the fabulous seaside resorts of Hunstanton, Cromer and Great Yarmouth. At the heart is the vibrant city of Norwich with excellent shopping, a vast array of restaurants and a pub for everyday of the year. Travel links are extensive with direct rail links to London and Cambridge and Norwich International Airport with flights to Europe and beyond.

 

All our office based roles are currently working from home as part of our Smarter Working plans and to support the health and safety of all our colleagues. We anticipate that working remotely will be a key feature of this role and when offices re-open your office base will be County Hall, Norwich.  Our technology platform and equipment is first class enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.
