University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. One of the largest employers in the area, we have approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites; Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe). We are looking for motivated enthusiastic Staff Nurses to join our team on the Patient Progression Unit.

PPU is an acute 4 bedded step up step down unit , admitting patients via the emergency department, theatre/recovery, wards and ICU. Patients on PPU require a higher level of care and closer monitoring for their complex care needs, also requiring a patient staff ratio of 1:2. We have a cohesive well established team and this post will provide a fantastic development opportunity for a newly qualified nurse or an experienced registered nurse.

As a member of the PPU team you will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical skills and achieve continuous personal development.

The department is committed to appraisal, to support continuous education and professional development. You will be required to participate in providing 24 hour cover. Rotation into ICU is an opportunity to the successful applicant.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
