We run two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Our 7,500 staff provide high quality care for a growing population of around 700,000 across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas.

We are looking for a qualified and motivated Band 6 HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to work within Blood Sciences, in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion department for fixed term 1 year Maternity Cover. Applications are invited from experienced and enthusiastic Biomedical Scientists who would like to expand their experience and develop their career through bespoke training that focuses on the operational requirements of the department, and their individual needs. The department operates a 24/7 shift pattern in which the successful candidate will be expected to participate.

The department has undergone significant change with the implementation of Winpath Enterprise (LIMS) and Blood Hound (Blood tracking) and is in process of implementing new analysers, including Beckman Coulter (DxH900), Werfen (ACL TOP550), Menarini (Vesmatic cube 30 and 80) and Griffols (BT) analysers. We have an up-to-date version of Q-Pulse, and iPAD access to encapsulate digital imaging, teaching and information tools. The department has an APP to communicate information on our services, including staff contacts, tests and sample requirements for the benefit of its users and patients. This is an opportunity to be part of a strategic and dynamic organisation that is embracing change for the benefit of its staff and patients.

The department has full UKAS accreditation and IBMS/HCPC training status and is one of a few organisations to have Haematology, Transfusion Science and Clinical Biochemistry, National School of Healthcare Science accredited training status for clinical sciences.

We are committed to developing our services further, through expansion of on-site testing and integration with other services (we have recently merged our pathology service with the Bedford hospital pathology services).
