Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist inpatient and community mental health, learning disabilities, addiction and acquired brain injury services for the people of Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby, Merseyside. We also provide community physical health services in Liverpool, Sefton, secure mental health services for the North West of England, the West Midlands and Wales and specialist learning disability services across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside.

We have an exciting opportunity for 12 permanent Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistants to work with our Occupational Therapy Team within a new state of the art, innovative Medium Secure Unit based in MaghuLl, Liverpool.

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust specialises in providing high quality care to men and women with a Learning Disability and Mental Health problems. The Secure and Specialist Learning Disability Division have a number of Forensic and Enhanced Support services that include High Secure, Medium Secure, Low Secure, Step Down and Enhanced beds based within inpatient services or in the community. We also have a dedicated Specialist Support Team that provides support in the community.

Each service is delivered using least restrictive principles, maximising opportunities for service users to work towards more independent living and receive specialist therapy geared to their personalised recovery. The service operates with a strong focus on multidisciplinary team working and the utilisation of all staff in delivering integrated therapy over the 24 hour period.

We are looking for Occupational Therapy Assistants who can demonstrate compassion and empathy to our service users, improving the quality of care services within a Secure/Forensic Environment.

It is essential that you are be enthusiastic, passionate, adaptable and highly motivated, with a keen interest in mental health and learning disabilities in forensic services. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a fast paced and challenging environment and be involved in the ongoing development of provision.

Your role will include supporting the qualified Occupational Therapists and the assistant practitioners to provide Occupational Therapy interventions to service users. You will support Occupational Therapy service through delivering aspects of the therapeutic programme. You will assist in the delivery of meaningful activities of daily living within the Occupational Therapy service.

 

You will actively engage service users in therapeutic activities to promote independence and well-being within hospital and community environments. The post holder will support service users to attend and participate in sessions that promote recovery through attendance at Occupational Therapy and Life Rooms courses and will provide an update and overview of service user’s participation, engagement level and skills following sessions.

You will be part of an established multidisciplinary team, as well as receiving support, direction and supervision from qualified staff or assistant practitioners in Occupational Therapy.

You will work closely with expert members of the therapeutic team including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy and social Work to plan and deliver individual and group interventions.

Dedicated support via clinical and managerial supervision will be provided alongside excellent opportunities for continual professional development including taking advantage of the Trusts outstanding Learning and Organisational Development Service.
