A flavour of your day to day

Nursing assistants provide invaluable support to ward teams and help with direct patient care, which might include:

  • Measuring and observing the physical characteristics/condition of patients, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, peak flows and weight
  • Assisting patients with the maintenance of their personal and oral hygiene, including washing/bathing, mouth and dental care, hair-washing, nail care, shaving and dressing/undressing
  • Assisting patients to eat and drink as per their care plan, identifying, recording and reporting abnormal dietary and fluid intake
  • Assisting patients with mobility, using safe manual handling techniques
  • Assisting patients to use toilet facilities.

  • Relevant experience of caring for others, either through previous employment, education and training or voluntary work

  • Work effectively as a member of the diverse multidisciplinary ward team

  • To commit to a 12.5 hour shift pattern, which includes day and night work over 7 days a week;please only apply if you are able to offer a flexible approach to working hours.

Care Certificate

If you’re successful in your application you will be required to take part in an intensive induction programme in order to achieve the required competencies for the Care Certificate. Initial training will take place over a four-week period and you’ll be expected to attend all study days and training sessions.

The aim is that you will achieve the Care Certificate within the first twelve weeks of your employment with the Trust. If you’re successful and employed on a part-time contract, it may be necessary to work additional hours during the first twelve weeks of your employment in order to meet the requirements of the Care Certificate.

Further information on the Care Certificate will be provided to shortlisted candidates as part of the group interview process.

The successful candidate for this post will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Disclosure atenhancedlevel.

For band 1 and band 2 posts, the cost of the DBS disclosure will be met by the Trust. However, any employees at Band 1 and Band 2 who leave the Trust within six months of commencing their post will have a £10 administration fee deducted from their final salary.
