We have an exciting programme of growth ahead and are looking to expand our team to transform cancer outcomes for the population of Cheshire and Merseyside

Senior Project Manager– Band 8A 1.0 WTE permanent post

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s leading providers of non-surgical cancer treatment, caring for a population of 2.4 million people across Cheshire & Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man and parts of Lancashire.

Our flagship specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool opened in June 2020, supported by our hospital on the Clatterbridge Health Park in Wirral providing outpatient cancer treatment and supportive care, and our radiotherapy treatment centre on the Aintree Hospital site.

Together, working across three sites and operating specialist chemotherapy clinics in four of Merseyside’s district hospitals, we are able to deliver a comprehensive range of inpatient care, advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other systemic anti-cancer therapies including gene therapies and immunotherapies. We also deliver a pioneering Treatment at Home and Work service; are the only facility in the UK providing low-energy proton beam therapy to treat rare eye cancers and host the region’s Teenage and Young Adult Unit, (supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust).

Working with leading experts from The University of Liverpool and the Cancer Research UK Liverpool Cancer Trials Unit we strive to stay at the forefront of novel treatments and techniques to deliver more effective and personalised treatments than ever before.

The Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance leads the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) ambitions for cancer across our local system. The Cancer Alliance provides system oversight and co-ordination for cancer services through collaboration with partners with the aims of improving outcomes for patients and improving performance against key operational standards.

The LTP sets ambitious plans for cancer including the commitment to ensure a significant increase in the proportion of people diagnosed at an early stage. In addition to this overarching commitment to improve early detection, the LTP includes major themes around faster diagnosis, treatment, personalised care, workforce and performance. Alongside this we recognise the challenges and opportunities of COVID19 have been a significant factor in our transformation programmes.

To enable the Cancer Alliance to lead the way forward and deliver the best cancer outcomes for our population we need to expand our team. Working with established clinical leadership forums and local partners, our core Alliance team needs additional enthusiastic and skilled people to help us in delivering best practice, value and experience for patients. We have a number of new exciting roles that will enable us to do this.

The Senior Project Manager will provide leadership and project management skills to support the planning, implementation and delivery of key transformation programmes and projects to enable delivery of the Cancer Alliance objectives and priorities.

The post holder will lead a team of project and specialist staff and line manage project managers within the Cancer Alliance team.

The Senior Project Manager will be senior members of the Cancer Alliance team. They will be required to consistently operate with political awareness, personal influence and skill, working effectively with external partners across Cheshire and Merseyside including providers, commissioners, NHS England, regulators, patients and carers to deliver project objectives.

The post holder will represent the Cancer Alliance at various Cheshire and Merseyside wide forums, including public meetings and will act in an autonomous capacity.

The Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance is one of 19 across England and covers a population of 2.4 million. Its footprint aligns with the Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. The Cancer Alliance is now in its fourth year and continues to build on its success in designing and mobilising major transformation projects spanning the whole patient pathway. This success is underpinned by excellent clinical leadership and a history of strong collaborative working across organisations in Cheshire and Merseyside.

The Cancer Alliance is hosted by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust and the CEO is the Senior Responsible Owner/Executive Lead for Cancer within the Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
