why join CLCH Bank? This is what one of our Bank nurse’s has to say!

I left my DSN role within general practice in April of this year with a view to retiring. I was keen to continue within my diabetes educator role delivering the DESMOND programme and contacted CLCH to enquire re the possibility of occasional sessions. However, with the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, group education had been suspended. As a result, CLCH were quick to offer me the possibility of helping out with DSN clinics as an alternative on the bank and I duly joined, agreeing to work two days a week in my 'semi retired' capacity. At the time I had some concerns about undertaking clinical work as I care for a very elderly vulnerable parent. However, I was quickly reassured that Morden clinic was a safe working environment and I would be conducting mainly telephone consultations. The intermediate diabetes team have been extremely supportive, particularly during such a challenging time, not only in terms of managing new ways of working around COVID 19 but also the significant changes taking place within the diabetes team with regard to senior nurses taking on new roles in addition to new junior nurses requiring support.

CLCH have recently offered me the opportunity of switching to a permanent contract which affords me the benefits of paid annual leave and sick pay if needed. I was initially concerned that I would lose the flexibility that I needed in my personal life. However, CLCH have taken a flexible, practical approach to my situation which has proved mutually beneficial. Whilst I fully appreciate that the needs of the service need to be a priority, I feel respected as an individual and a professional.

We are based in Morden (at the end of the Northern line) and work within the London Borough of Merton. Morden Underground station is just around the corner and Wimbledon Station 1.5 miles away. We are also on many bus routes, with a tram station very nearby.
