Physician Associate

Job Reference: J336-A-20-0177

Norwich Practices Ltd

Physician Associate (PA), Primary Care

Salary commencing on £39.5k

OneNorwich represents 21 Norwich Practices. It was created to provide strategic leadership and to implement transformational change for General Practice. A significant focus for OneNorwich is the development of a sustainable General Practice focusing on capability and workforce capacity. The role of the Physician Associate within General Practice is recognised as vital to create resilient primary care teams, able to provide an integrated, patient-centred service.

Primary Care Networks (PCN) are now strongly emerging as the new shape of general practice, as directed by NHS England. In Norwich, we have an established Primary Care Network made up of four defined groups of GP Practices, called ‘neighbourhoods’. The PCN Neighbourhood will provide a dedicated focus to connect the local primary care and community teams. OneNorwich has been mandated by all Norwich Practices to provide the necessary transformation, infrastructure and support for Norwich PCN, ensuring that the NHS England Network Contract DES can be delivered. We are seeking to recruit a Physician Associate keen to work within our Primary Care Network. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team supported by general practice.

This is an exciting opportunity for the ‘right’ person wishing to develop their clinical management in a fast moving Primary Care environment, in the heart of the community. The practice teams have a wealth of experience of working in primary care which will undoubtedly provide the opportunity for the successful applicant to develop their knowledge and skills and shape the role within dynamic clinical teams.
The position for a Physician Associate for Norwich, working on a permanent, full time basis, has been created to underpin new models of care and support a sustainable future for Primary Care. It is a pathfinder role originally to be based at Thorpewood Medical Group in the east neighbourhood.

The PA will provide care for presenting patients, from initial history taking and clinical assessment, through to the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The PA will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients. They will work collaboratively with a practice team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures. The role will provide a holistic, clinical service, with support from GPs as required, implementing agreed plans and following approved protocols. The PA will be expected to carry out some home visits, consult with patients who present on the day and via pre-booked appointments, conduct On Line Consultations and Triage and delivery of care. The PA will review and act appropriately on blood results, referrals/correspondence and Med 3 Sick Certificates for patients.
