The Sterile Services and Endoscopy Decontamination Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is looking for Decontamination Technicians to join the team.

We currently have the below vacancies:

  • Late shift which is permanently 15:00-23:00

  • General shifts which will be working a variety of shifts within the service hours between 8:00-23:00

ABOUT THE TEAM

We process around 12,500 trays of surgical instruments and medical devices per month. Using the latest decontamination technology, the decontamination service serves the patient care needs for all hospitals and units under the umbrella of UHS as well as some health centres and hospitals in the community. The Decontamination service operates between 0800hrs 2300hrs. The successful candidates will also be required to work one weekend in four and potentially bank holidays, for which enhancements are paid.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Duties involve

  • Checking in of dirty instrument sets and endoscopes and cleaning/disinfecting of the instrument sets and endoscopes by correctly loading into washer-disinfectors and automatic endoscopes reprocessors.

  • Inspecting, laying up and packing comprehensive sets of instruments and endoscopes for major surgical procedures to enable a timely commitment to customers and to maintain production deadlines

  • Collection of instruments from Theatres and Endoscopy Department

  • Awareness of hygiene required in a Hospital.

  • Understanding of how quality systems work.

  • Understand importance of good Customer Care skills

  • Able to demonstrate a good work ethos

  • Ability to work in line with the service requirements

  • Working weekends and Bank holidays, on a rota basis
