We have a vacancy in the Pharmacy Procurement & Logistics Department at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) for a Senior Pharmacy Support Worker. The main function of the role is to organise and supervise the functions and team in the supply of stock medicines to units and pharmacies, inside the hospital and to other areas within the locality. You’ll need to have organisational and supervisory experience with good communication skills and a reliable, approach in the workplace.


The Pharmacy Logistics Distribution team supports many wards, pharmacies and clinics within Southampton University Hospital and the surrounding areas by providing stock medications. This involves working in ward areas as well as in the Pharmacy Store. As part of a larger ever expanding pharmacy team we are constantly evolving to meet demand.

The current hours of work are 8.30 - 17.00 for 4 days a week and 10.30 - 19.00 on 1 day, with an hour for lunch. Weekend hours are 09.00 – 17.00 with 30 minutes for lunch on either a Saturday or Sunday. Weekend shifts are covered on a rota basis with a commitment to working 1 in 6 weekends. You will be trained in-house gaining competencies in all aspects of pharmacy distribution work. We are a friendly, diverse team who support each other and work together aiming to provide the best possible service to our customers.


The main tasks are

  • Organisation and supervision of a team of 16 pharmacy support workers.

  • Organisation of workload in the pharmacy logistics distribution section.

  • Training team members in pharmacy distribution processes according to procedures.

  • Stock management.

  • The issue of pharmaceutical products in accordance with procedure.

  • Maintenance of the robotic distribution system.

  • Act as a H&S/Fire safety lead

This is a demanding role based in a store environment. You will be supported in a training programme to gain skills in pharmacy distribution work.


We are looking for friendly and reliable applicants. You’ll need to have

  • The ability to work in a team and independently

  • Supervisory experience

  • Organisational experience

  • Excellent people skills

  • Good, proven standard of numeracy and literacy

  • IT skills.

  • A good standard of health, fitness and mobility as this work can be strenuous with periods of repetitive lifting at times.

  • Good written & verbal communication skills

Experience in stock movement and rotation are advantageous.
