An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy Facilities Catering Services Team within the Directorate of Facilities and Estates. The post holder will be responsible for a full range of duties involve working in any area of the Catering Department flexible workforce services to the NHS.

At Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust our success starts with you. The catering department is seeking a motivated staff member to assist in the provision of our patient meal service and our three retail outlets which cater for Staff Visitors and Patients.

We are looking for a new member to join our Catering team working in a fast-moving environment that serves over 650 meals per service 7 days a week; successful candidates will carry out a full range of Catering and Cleaning duties as well as moving and delivering large service trolleys around the Hospital.

To succeed in this role you will:

• Be able to demonstrate previous experience in a catering environment

• Be able to work effectively and efficiently and achieve and maintain departmental standards.

• Maintain hygienic and safe working standards in all catering activities.

• Be able to meet deadlines

• Be flexible in approach and totally customer focused

• Be a team player, possess good communication skills

• Be prepared to undertake any training required for the role at.

• Be able to work effectively and efficiently in the following areas:

  • Main kitchen – Meal preparation, Stores receipting and delivery.
  • Commercial retail operations – Dining room, Costa coffee proud to serve barista, Horizon café,
  • Vending and Functions.
  • Dish washing facility.
  • Patient meal service operation – Picking, Packing & Loading.

Catering assistant will be required to operate a large commercial dish wash machine cleaning all cutlery and crockery from patients and the Bayview restaurant, to serving all customers in a polite and helpful manner to using cash register’s, you will also be required to work in a patient based Kitchen helping deliver the patient meals and drinks for their requirements.

Previous experience in the catering industry would be an advantage as general duties in the kitchen, café and associated areas include the service of food delivery, preparation of food items, salads, sandwiches, fruit and beverages, preparation and delivery of hospitality.

Other responsibilities shall include cleaning of premises and equipment; provide effective, quality, customer responsive and value for money service.

Responsibility for maintaining good safe working practices and hygiene standards.

You will be expected to work effectively as part of a dedicated team or sometimes as an individual you should be willing to work in a flexible manner

The department provides a meal service for staff and visitors, including patients daily over the period of seven days, including Weekend and Bank holidays, as a relief post, every measure will be made to accommodate your preferences, but due to the service requirements, this may not be always be achieved with daily shifts consisting of varied hours, working a rostered shift basis, from the hours between 07:00–20:30.

Catering & Retail Support Assistant Higher level – 30 hrs. per week hours, days of work as required as a relief post to cover absences, leave etc. Flexible working is essential.

  • Applicants will need to have good written and spoken English language skills as there is a requirement to read patient menu cards and communicate patient choice with colleagues.

This job requires you to have a DBS check to enable you to properly fulfil the requirements of the job, on appointment you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check and this amount will be reclaimed from your salary.
