Permanent position. 37 hours per week. Agenda for Change salary with Devon County Council terms and conditions. The successful applicant has the option to remain in the NHS pension scheme or join the Local Government Pension scheme.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Devon County Council’s public health team.

Devon provides an opportunity to work in a beautiful area with a mix of urban, rural and coastal communities. With a population of over 780,000 and a committed and respected public health team it is a great place to develop your public health career.

Although all public health consultants are generalists, you will lead on specific portfolios of work. The post will have an initial focus on public mental health, suicide prevention, substance misuse and supporting the multi-agency complex lives work. The postholder will also support the Covid-19 response. Devon host several Registrars and you will be one of a team of Educational Supervisors. Public Health Devon currently reports directly to the Chief Executive.

You will hold a senior leadership role within the Council, driving improved health and wellbeing with Devon communities, with a relentless focus on reducing health inequalities. In addition to working across Devon County Council as a public health organisation, the role requires excellent relationships and joint working across boundaries with Devon Clinical Commissioning Group, other NHS partners, Public Health England, community, and private sector organisations and other key partners, as well as with the people of Devon.

This demanding, varied and interesting role requires an individual who is highly skilled and experienced across a broad range of public health leadership roles and has a strong track record of delivery, working in collaboration with others. Devon County Council has adopted leadership behaviours which are outlined in the person specification and will form part of the selection process.

Being on or within 6 months of eligibility (if a specialty registrar) of admission to the GMC/GDC Specialist Register/UK Voluntary Register for Public Health Specialists is an essential requirement.
