We have an exciting opportunity available for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our well-established Macmillan Head & Neck Cancer Speech and Language Therapy team in Swansea Bay University Health Board.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist with advanced dysphagia skills to lead and co-ordinate the Head & Neck Cancer Oncology service for both in-patients and out-patients across the entire head and neck cancer patient pathway. You will be required to jointly lead and deliver our instrumental dysphagia clinics held across the Health Board. Ideally you will be competent to practise independently in both FEES and videofluoroscopy however training and support can be provided to the right candidate if required.

The South West Wales Regional Cancer Centre is based in Singleton Hospital where a full range of oncological treatments are provided on both an in-patient and out-patient basis. The SLT department in Morriston Hospital is co-located with head and neck specialist services within a purpose built head and neck cancer unit with a dedicated head and neck cancer surgical ward.

We have ready access to FEES equipment and instrumental biofeedback equipment for dysphagia rehabilitation as well as a full range of laryngectomy/SVR equipment. The Speech & Language Therapy team is integral to the Head & Neck Cancer MDT and there are excellent and long established MDT working relationships. We run numerous MDT clinics including pre-treatment clinics, treatment review clinics and post treatment clinics. We deliver regular FEES, Videofluoroscopy, SVR and Voice clinics both independently and alongside consultant colleagues.

We have well established relationship with Macmillan and other third sector organisations. We also have strong links with Swansea University, teaching regularly to the Medical School independently and alongside our Consultant colleagues. The post holder would be encouraged to continue to develop these links in terms of research and teaching opportunities.

As a department we routinely provide regular appraisal and clinical supervision opportunities, active support for research, audit and evidence-based practice and dedicated time and funding for appropriate CPD.

There are strong working links across specialisms within the SLT department with regular SLT team meetings and opportunities for clinical supervision and CPD. The team has excellent administrative support.

The post holder must have a Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent qualification, be a member of RCSLT and be registered and licensed to practice with HCPC.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
