  • For posts on PHE Civil Service terms and conditions, on appointment the salary is normally the minimum point (see salary range above). This will be dependent on the successful candidate’s current salary and terms and/or equivalent experience. The Civil Service pay structure and progression is different from NHS Agenda for Change, most local authority pay grades and other systems that have annual pay increments. Any moves across the Civil Service may have implications on your ability to carry on claiming childcare vouchers.

Given the nature of the work of PHE, as a Category 1 department, you may be required in an emergency, if deemed a necessity, to redeploy to another role at short notice. You may also be required to work at any other location, within reasonable travelling distance of your permanent home address, in line with the provisions set out in your contract of employment.

On 18 August 2020, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care announced plans to establish the National Institute of Health Protection and consult on the best future options for strengthening health improvement and other public health functions in the wider system. Public Health England and its employees will be in scope for transition to new organisations in Spring 2021. Any new or current employees working for Public Health England during this time, will receive appropriate consultation prior to any formal transfer taking place.

PHE East of England is one of PHE’s 8 local Centres, which have a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with local authorities, NHS commissioners and the providers of public health services from the public, third and independent sector, in order to support and influence the delivery of improved outcomes for the public’s health.

This post will be part of PHE East of England’s Business Support team. The team plays a vital role in enabling the delivery of the Centre’s work on health protection, health and wellbeing, and healthcare public health, and the Centre’s corporate and management functions. Our Business Support staff work as a single team across different sites in the East of England and have a key role to play in the implementation of new models of working across the Centre.

This post will have a primary focus on providing support to our health protection staff, but will also be required to work flexibly to support staff across all our areas of work.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Business Support team working to implement streamlined and efficient business support processes across the East of England.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals, with excellent administrative skills and the ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships. Candidates should

Have a flexible approach to their work and be able to work independently and at times under minimal supervision.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate strong data entry skills, communication and written skills as this role will be required to communicate on a regular basis with a wide range of staff and stakeholders. The individual should be enthusiastic with a pro-active and professional approach at all times.
