Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, employing over 23,000 staff.

We are responsible for running a family of ten hospitals across seven separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. We are also the lead provider for a significant number of specialised services including Breast Care, Vascular, Cardiac, Respiratory, Urology Cancer, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Ophthalmology and Genomic Medicine.

Our vision is to improve the health and quality of life of our diverse population by building an organisation that:

  • Excels in quality, safety, patient experience, research, innovation and teaching
  • Attracts, develops and retains great people
  • Is recognised internationally as a leading healthcare provider.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the North West Genomic Laboratory Hub (NW GLH) for a lead bioinformatician to join our senior leadership team. The NW GLH is one of seven GLHs created in Oct 2018 following a restructure of genomic services for NHS patients in England and is responsible for service delivery to 7.5 million people across NW England and a broad range of specialist services nationally. Genomic services are currently undergoing transformational change and bioinformatics is playing a critical part in the transformation. We are looking for an experienced bioinformatics leader with a proven track record in either healthcare bioinformatics or academic bioinformatics with a significant genomics component. We are looking for an individual with experience of leading transformational change and managing teams to deliver complex projects safely and on time. Excellent communication skills are essential as the role will involve collaborating and delivering projects with colleagues regionally and nationally. Experience of working and delivering in a regulated environment (ISO15189:2012 or equivalent) is essential as patient safety is paramount. You will be responsible for leading an experienced team of clinical bioinformaticians and bioinformatics service delivery across multiple sites. You will also work closely with the GLH Informatics lead, the GLH Academic lead and GLH Scientific leads. The role will primarily be based at the Manchester laboratory site. If you are interested by the prospect of working in a dynamic, supportive and exciting environment where you will be making a difference to patient care we would love to hear from you.
