Exciting opportunities have arisen for dynamic, motivated and experienced Paediatric Intensive Care Nurses to work within our expanding team of Nursing, Medical and other Health Care Professionals within our two Paediatric Intensive Care Units.

We are currently two busy and leading units with 14 beds across the two sites, providing expert care for critically ill children. The PICU at Glenfield is part of the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre (EMCHC) and cares for children within the East Midlands and nationwide who require surgical management of complex heart problems. Glenfield’s PICU is also home to the first ECMO unit in the country and leads the way in providing excellent and innovative care to children requiring extra corporeal heart and lung supportThe Leicester Royal Infirmary’s regional PICU provides excellent and innovative critical care for children with a wide range of serious and complex illnesses and is situated within the current Children’s Hospital..

It is an exciting time as the two PICU’s will be co-locating together in a new unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. This will also coincide with the relocation of all of children’s services into a standalone Children’s Hospital. The post holder will initially start at the Glenfield PICU providing leadership and care to our critically ill children. The post holder will then have the opportunity to obtain new knowledge and skills and to further develop the two PICU’s as they become one PICU.


The post holder should demonstrate solid leadership skills, be an exemplary role mode and show clinical expertise in Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing. Rotational posts across the 2 ITU’s and other clinical areas within Paediatrics are currently being developed to allow Nurses to experience a wide range of skills and knowledge. The post holder will have access to a wide range of education and development opportunities including SIMS training. The post holder will be required to work shifts, and be an enthusiastic integral member of our well established and committed team, with over 140 members of nursing staff, delivering excellent quality care to our sickest children.
