Band 7 1.0wte Lead Specialist Diabetes Dietitian

If yes, Newcastle Nutrition would like to offer you the opportunity to join our friendly, thriving and well established community team on a permanent, full time basis.

As the Lead Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, you will be innovative, have the ability to work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team and will have an opportunity to implement service change and development to ensure services align with trust values and are fit for the future.

The role also presents an exciting opportunity, to work on a one to one basis with a complex caseload of patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes; including those on insulin pumps, education on carbohydrate counting and insulin dose adjusting, interpretation of continuous glucose Monitoring (CGM), insulin and novel therapy starts as well as delivering structured group education; candidates should be qualified to deliver DESMOND and DAFNE. Candidates should also have experience of supporting behaviour change and different counselling methods e.g. motivational interviewing.

The specialist diabetes team is lead collaboratively by the diabetes consultants, specialist nurses, dietitians and other supporting staff; The post holder will have responsibility for 1:1 supervisions and staff appraisals so excellent leadership skills and experience of successfully supporting individuals/ teams with staff/service development is essential.
The team are also involved in a range of nursing and medical education plus B and C dietetic student placement training and supervision.

The role is based at the Newcastle diabetes centre (currently based at the Centre for Ageing and Vitality) however a move is underway to deliver more clinics and group education in the Newcastle community. Excellent time management, organisational and communication skills to thrive in this busy out-patient environment will be required to meet outcome measures and ensure that the highest quality patient care is provided. Some clinics may be delivered in the early evening therefore flexibility is required.

The post holder will also join the 22-strong community team, based in modern offices at Regent Point in Gosforth. You will be required to work at locations across Newcastle; therefore, a car driver with current driving license is an essential requirement. Agile working is supported by issue of mobile kit (lap top, mobile phone). Newcastle Hospitals is a paperlite hospital and as such our community service uses electronic patient records.

Newcastle Nutrition is privileged to have good support from dietetic support workers and administrative staff. Also as a lead you will be supported by the manager of the community dietetics team and head of service. The team is committed to staff development and encourages research/audit opportunities and CPD.
