Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

Based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, SE Wales

Full Time (10 Sessions)

Applications are invited for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals to join our friendly and dynamic team within the Respiratory directorate at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Part time / flexible working appointees will be considered. This is an exciting time to be joining us as we are reconfiguring services as part of clinical futures to develop truly integrated and patient centred respiratory services within our health board.

We are looking for individuals able to run subspecialty respiratory medicine for a population of over 600,000. We wish to develop existing specialist services in lung cancer and pleural medicine, asthma, NIV and Sleep services and develop closer links with the palliative services to develop end of life care and anticipatory care planning within our health board. Individuals with an interest in other sub-speciality areas would be considered.

Aneurin Bevan Health Board is one of seven Local Health Boards in Wales. It provides acute, community and mental healthcare services to more than 600,000 people living in South East Wales, and is one of the largest and busiest NHS health boards/Trusts in the UK. It is responsible for delivering services through its three acute hospitals in Newport, Abergavenny and Caerphilly, supported by five community hospitals, health centres and extensive mental health and learning disabilities facilities. There are plans for a new revolutionary model of hospital service provision, with the creation of a state-of-the art new hospital the Grange University Hospital (providing specialist and critical care) opening in 2021.

The Health Board actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month formal sabbaticals through an annual application process.

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
