We have excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking children’s nurse to join our progressive and friendly Paediatric Oncology Service. The Children and Young People’s Health Directorate is an integrated children’s service incorporating both acute and community care, providing nursing care to babies and children up to 18 years of age under the care of all specialities.




Paediatric Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist:

37.5 HOURS normally worked Mon-Fri

Based within Children and Young People’s OPD


SALARY:       Band 6


The Paediatric Oncology Team provide chemotherapy and supportive care for all children 0-16 with a cancer diagnosis. The oncology service covers inpatient, day case, community nursing and outpatient clinics as required by the children throughout their treatment. The post holder will be expected to work closely with Wildgoose ward and the Children’s and Young Peoples Outpatients Department, while also offering home visits as appropriate. This role has a community element and would cover all aspects of care from diagnosis, through treatment and at times includes palliative and end of life care. Although mainly Mon-Fri hours there may also be a requirement to work shifts on the ward to support.


The post holder:

Will have demonstrable experience of working within a multidisciplinary team to promote family centred, patient focused care to children and families using our service. Will be able to demonstrate excellent clinical skills and therefore be able to ensure the delivery of high quality evidence based nursing care.

Will be able to work autonomously as a patient s key worker.


Appropriate post registration experience, within a clinical setting is essential while community experience would be desirable. Proven evidence of relevant oncology training would also be essential.


Although this is a full time post we would consider part time or job share. We are committed to supporting flexible working as able, while ensuring the needs of the service are met.

  • Working in a small team has its own challenges; How would you promote good team work and communication across the service while ensuring the child receives an optimum standard of care.
