Intensive Care Sister/Charge Nurse


Are you a demonstrably experienced Critical Care Nurse looking for a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse post in the South West of England.  If you are then this could be the job for you!  An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the band 6 team on the Neuro/Trauma ICU at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.  For more information about our unit please see our Accreditation file we recently updated illustrating some of the great initiatives we have recently introduced.

The successful applicant will be a clinically skilled nurse responsible for leading a team of nursing staff within our Neuro ICU.  As a shift leader you will be responsible for co-ordinating the delivery of the high standard of nursing care we are proud of.  As a team leader you will be recognised as a positive, professional and motivating role model for junior colleagues whilst ensuring a supportive learning environment for continuing education.

Pencarrow is a modern, state of the art 10-bedded Neuro/Trauma Critical Care Unit. Patients on the unit are admitted with multiple injuries including acute brain injuries and spinal injuries and require multi-system support including ventilation, ICP monitoring, EVDs, MultiCitrate Filtering.  We also manage a wide range of General ICU patients when required offering a broad range of experiences. 

We are seeking highly motivated and demonstrably experienced critical care nurses to join our band 6 team.  If you have demonstrable experience as a senior RN at band 5 within a critical care unit then we would like to hear from you.  This post will provide you with a new and exciting challenge where you will have the opportunity to develop your management, leadership and clinical skills.

The ICU nursing team is supported by a comprehensive education team, led by our Band 7 Critical Care Educator.   Staff follow an education pathway, which is competency based (using the Critical Care national competency framework) we provide the opportunity to apply for  a 60 credit Critical Care course in conjunction with the University of Plymouth covering Applied Physiology in Critical Illness, Core and Advanced concepts in Critical Care.
