Have you a solid background in adult nutritional support and enjoy team based working?

We are looking for a Specialist Nurse with good communication skills, to work as a much valued core member of the Adult Nutrition Support/Intestinal Failure Team working on a rotation basis at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital sites, with cover at the Glenfield Hospital to meet patient need. The role is diverse and includes:-

  • Providing a comprehensive nursing service to adult inpatients requiring Parenteral Nutrition via a multi-professional nutrition support team round.
  • Providing a specialist nursing service as part of the Nutrition Support Team for adult Home Parenteral Nutrition patients including outpatient clinics and weekly MDT.
  • Providing a specialist nursing service as part of the Nutritional support team for Adult enterally fed inpatients alongside Dietitians and provide a troubleshooting service for patients in the community e.g. tube blockages to reduce ED admissions.
  • To provide effective communication on aspects of artificial nutrition support and nutritional management of intestinal failure e.g. parenteral home care companies.
  • To provide teaching and training of healthcare professionals, carers and patients and resource development e.g. nasal gastric tube replacement, administration and care of parenteral nutrition central catheters.
  • To contribute to pre-registration training of Nurses and multi-professional staff.
  • We are a progressive service which actively contributes to Trusts and the national clinical governance agenda and has established clinical audit, R & D and policy/strategy programmes. The service is committed to CPD and personal development and has well defined clinical supervision systems in place.
  • You will work alongside an expert dietetic and nutrition service, as well as the wider Leicester Intestinal Failure team with Consultant Gastroenterologists, Consultant Chemical Pathologist and Pharmacy. This will give you a great opportunity to develop broad experience in nutritional support in the field of Parenteral Nutrition / Intestinal Failure. Whilst some previous experience in Parenteral and/or Enteral Nutrition is required, competency based training will be provided.
  • This post offers an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Nurse to work in the friendly Nutrition and Dietetic Service as part of the Adult Nutrition Support/ Intestinal Failure Team working across Clinical Management Groups in the Trust. Specialities include Gastroenterology, Surgery, Neurology and Oncology in University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust. There is a regular hospital transport bus hopper system in place that covers all three hospital sites.
