Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

We are looking for Band 6 or experienced Band 5 Physio’s who have worked in acute care across multiple specialities, have a passion for Respiratory and are motivated to learn and progress.

Candidates should have a BSc, MSc or graduate diploma in Physiotherapy, be HCPC registered and have great communication and interpersonal skills.

Join our supportive and dynamic Physiotherapy team in our internationally renowned Cardiothoracic Hospital at Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

You will be supported by Team Leaders and Deputy Team Leaders across Critical Care, Cystic Fibrosis, Respiratory Support and Sleep studies, Cardiothoracic surgery and Chest Medical Unit rotations to develop core Respiratory assessment and treatment skills.

Become part of our innovative team covering inpatient and outpatient services including our on call, twilight and weekend working provision.

  • Support and teaching to enable you to provide excellent patient care across all rotational area’s
  • Specialist departmental and team in service training
  • Regular one to ones, clinical supervision, appraisals and competency support
  • In house courses and access to external courses and conferences
  • Involvement with expert multi-disciplinary teams
  • Advanced skill teaching and support including ECMO rehab, ventricular assist devices, Nebulised drug challenges, tracheostomy weaning and decannulation.
  • Opportunity for Service development projects and involvement with audits
  • Participation in research.
  • Support and guidance for you to mentor students and junior staff.
