Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

x2 Full time Matron Secondments – Critical care and Thoracic Medicine

We have two exciting 9 month secondment opportunities for experienced senior nurses to join our Matron team in Thoracic Medicine and Critical Care.

We are looking for leaders who will work closely with our existing Matron Team and Heads of Nursing to provide compassionate and inclusive leadership that models the Trust values of Care, Valued, Excellence and Innovation. This highlights how we are committed to recruiting the right people: people with the skills, behaviours and competences to achieve our vision of delivering tomorrow’s treatments today to patients attending Royal Papworth Hospital.

Our staff have been through a sustained period of rapid change and intensity with the Coronavirus Pandemic and now learning with ‘Living with the Coronavirus’, we are looking for a leader who can support and engage teams across their Division to stabilise and further work towards new ways of working in the recovery planning for Thoracic Medicine and Critical Care Services.
