  • For posts on PHE Civil Service terms and conditions, on appointment the salary is normally the minimum point (see salary range above). This will be dependent on the successful candidate’s current salary and terms and/or equivalent experience. The Civil Service pay structure and progression is different from NHS Agenda for Change, most local authority pay grades and other systems that have annual pay increments.   • For clinically ringfenced AfC or Medical/Dental posts, you must obtain the correct professional registration to be appointed. The pay will follow the AfC or Medical & Dental terms & conditions. You may be asked to provide evidence on previous service whilst we are conducting pre-employment checks to determine starting salaries.

Any moves across the Civil Service may have implications on your ability to carry on claiming childcare vouchers.

Given the nature of the work of PHE, as a Category 1 department, you may be required in an emergency, if deemed a necessity, to redeploy to another role at short notice. You may also be required to work at any other location, within reasonable travelling distance of your permanent home address, in line with the provisions set out in your contract of employment.

Our new operating model within our Place and Regions Directorate represents a strong shift to regional delivery supported by expert corporate teams. Local health systems are supported by our integrated regional teams who play a major leadership role in the geographies they manage. As we move forward, this is an exciting time to be joining the North West regional business support team.

Job Purpose / Summary

You will be a highly organised and motivated individual, able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels both internally and externally.

The main duties of the AO role include providing business support to our health protection team’s acute response and/or locality test and trace hubs and general administration support to health protection, healthcare public health and health and wellbeing colleagues. On typical day you might be supporting meetings, answering and filtering telephone calls, undertaking diary management, typing letters, sorting / processing clinical post or ensuring effective and efficient systems and data entry.

You will have excellent ‘people skills’, including the ability to remain calm under pressure. You must also have a good understanding of handling confidential information. The successful candidate should be able to deal positively with changing workload priorities and will be able to respond politely and efficiently to internal and external telephone callers.
