Would you like to train to be a High Intensity Therapist/Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for the NHS? Healthy Minds Bucks, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Service (IAPT) is expanding and has opportunities for Trainee CBT Therapists to join our team. Do you already have a core profession, for example, mental health nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, (with further post graduate training in evidence-based psychological therapies, including CBT, to at least equivalent of Masters level and significant experience working as a psychological therapist), counsellor (BACP accredited) or be a clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist or health psychologist?

Buckinghamshire Healthy Minds is a nationally recognised, high-performing and innovative IAPT service supporting around 10,000 adults every year to manage their common mental health difficulties, such as anxiety and depression. You will be trained to deliver effective, evidence-based psychological therapies either in person (post covid-19 restrictions), by telephone, online, via digital platforms either individually or in groups. Our service has over 170 staff including PWPs, High Intensity Therapists, referral coordinators, employment advisors, managers and administrators.

Our main bases are located centrally in High Wycombe in the south and Aylesbury in the north of the county. We run clinics from a variety of community venues across Buckinghamshire. The service is expanding and we have opportunities for trainee CBT therapists in both High Wycombe and Aylesbury. There are separate adverts for the posts in each base, if you wish to be considered for both locations, you only need to apply once. Staff wellbeing is a top priority for us. We have a very active, award winning, wellbeing team within the service and work hard to ensure that a supportive, collaborative and productive culture is in place. CBT therapists at Healthy Minds receive weekly clinical supervision, both individually and in groups; a monthly clinical skills forum meeting; opportunities for ongoing training in addition to regular Line Management. There is a wealth of opportunities for career development.

We’re looking for people who are compassionate, work well in a team, have plenty of enthusiasm and motivation. You will need experience of working in a mental health setting and excellent written and verbal communication skills. In return, we offer you a thorough training in CBT based at the University of Reading (UoR), clinical experience through Healthy Minds, and a supportive supervisor team at both University and on placement, throughout your training. The training programme is scheduled to start in January 2021 and ideally people will start work with the service in December to complete induction. and other duties.

You will have an understanding and experience of cognitive behaviour therapy and wish to complete a BABCP accredited training in CBT. The training prepares you to meet BABCP accreditation requirements in order to work in IAPT services. This is an excellent, but demanding course and candidates are expected to complete all its requirements within 12 months of starting the training.

You will attend the UoR Post Graduate Diploma in Evidence Based Psychological Treatments (IAPT pathway) for two days a week from January 2021. You will receive clinical supervision (CBT) from the UoR and Healthy Minds BABCP accredited clinicians, as well as managerial supervision in service.

Please note: for those applicants who already hold a psychological therapist qualification (e.g. clinical, counselling or health psychologists) these posts will be a Band 7 during and post training. For all other applicants, the post will be a Band 6 during training, moving to a Band 7 once the training course has been passed.

Following completion of the course, moving to a qualified Band 7 post will be contingent on meeting a number of strict criteria related to the roles and performance of a CBT therapist. These will be regularly assessed over the first 6 months post qualification and all of these need to be fulfilled in order to meet the full requirements of a CBT therapist.

Oxford Health NHS FT has a strong track record for supporting the development of psychological therapy services. The Trust has two IAPT services, a range of specialist psychological therapy services and employs over 300 psychological therapists. The Trust hosts the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre and the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology. Healthy Minds is actively involved in research, participating in local and national studies. The service benefits from being a member of the Oxford Academic Health Sciences Network – Anxiety and Depression Network led by Professor David Clark.
