Band 5 Genetic Technologist

Applications are invited for a Band 5 Genetic Technologist to join the cytogenetics team based within Department of Molecular Pathology at Hammersmith Hospital. The successful applicant will work as part of a laboratory team undertaking a broad range of scientific and technical duties covering a wide range of cytogenetic techniques under the supervision of senior scientific staff. They will be responsible for managing the day to day running of the technical section of the cytogenetics laboratory along with contributing to the daily rota.

The successful applicant will be expected to possess a degree in a relevant science based subject. Significant work experience in a diagnostic cytogenetics laboratory is essential with the ability to troubleshoot all aspects of the service. In particular experience of working in a diagnostic haemato-oncology laboratory is desirable. A good knowledge of UKAS 15189 accreditation standards is also required.

There is also potential for training in molecular diagnostics for the successful applicant.

Applicants should have good interpersonal skills with good time management skills and be capable of working under pressure to tight deadlines. They should be team players, looking to expand their knowledge and experience in a diagnostic genetic laboratory.
