Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia with a Cardiac Interest

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia with a special interest in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia. This is a replacement post in the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine based currently at The East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre, Glenfield Hospital.

This is particularly exciting time for Leicester’s Hospitals. We have been given £450m by the Government to provide a host of new facilities and reconfigure services between our three main sites. Flagship projects include a new Children’s Hospital, a new Maternity Hospital, a new Treatment Centre and two new Intensive Care Units. Equally importantly, we are going “paperless”, with a £12m investment in our NerveCentre computer system to help our team deliver world class care.

As one of the very largest NHS Trusts in the country, our contribution to our communities goes way beyond direct health; we are the largest employer in our region, we educate and train the staff of the future, we push research boundaries and with our £1bn turnover we are an economic engine for the wider East Midlands and beyond.

We have a welcoming and friendly team of 3 Paediatric Anaesthetic consultants who provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency paediatric cardiac procedures. Experience in paediatric diagnostic and interventional catheter laboratory work is desirable as is competency in transoesophageal echocardiography. The post will attract a minimum of 10 PA. On call duties will initially involve paediatric work on a 1 in 4 rota. It is the department’s aim to establish a one in five rota in the medium term. Initially 1.5 PA’s will be allocated to supporting professional activity (SPA).

If you are ambitious about what you do and strive to improve patient experience bring your dedication and determination here and you will benefit from the support of an experienced and enthusiastic multi-professional team committed to the delivery of brilliant patient care.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 a DBS check will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical supervision and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake relevant clinical management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. They would also be expected to cover pre-assessment clinics and MDT meetings.
